The Development Operations (DevOps) Architect is a leader with an established record of DevOps organizational transformation working in a hybrid, multi-cloud environment. This role is responsible for developing and executing a DevOps strategy to ensure quality software deployments and overall application health and performance. Optimizes relationships between the development, quality assurance and IT operations teams. The architect will work across True Value applications teams, partner application teams, infrastructure support organizations and True Value cloud partners.

Position Description

Responsibilities: (May perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).

  1. Designs and maintains DevOps infrastructure. Owns the quality of architecture and design.
  2. Develops infrastructure testing procedures and confirms procedures are properly implemented.
  3. Consults with management to determine future operational requirements for upcoming project and updates.
  4. Functionally decomposes complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions.
  5. Evangelizes and trains teams and leverages DevOps pipelines.
  6. Exerts technical influence over multiple teams, increasing productivity and effectiveness by sharing deep knowledge and experience.
  7. Leads technical and design discussions with development teams.
  8. Handles quality assurance activities to ensure software development is performed in a timely manner.
  9. Researches and resolves problems discovered in quality assurance reviews.
  10. Maintains knowledge of new industry-used tools and techniques and recommends updates to management. Incorporates latest technology best practices and improves operational performance.
  11. Monitors key performance metrics to ensure the DevOps infrastructure can meet them.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Science or Engineering and/or related technical area or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of professional or military experience in information technology.
  • 10+ years of software development or application engineering in languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++ or similar object-oriented language.
  • Experience with architecting and automating cloud native technologies, deploying applications, and provisioning infrastructure.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, using Cloud Formation, Terraform, or other tools.
  • Experience architecting cloud native CI/CD workflows and tools, such as Jenkins, Bamboo, TeamCity, Code Deploy (AWS) and/or GitLab.
  • A successful DevOps practitioner has technical depth across the full DevOps spectrum.
  • Understands system inter-dependencies and limitations.
  • Architectural leadership experience with micro-services and distributed applications, such as containers, Kubernetes, and/or server-less technology.
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle and delivery using Agile practices.
  • Demonstrated success as a software developer, application architect, release manager, product manager, CTO, or consultant working with various platforms.
  • Experience architecting, designing, and developing applications on the AWS platform preferred.
  • Experience designing and building applications using container and server-less technologies, preferred.
  • Experience architecting highly available systems that utilize load balancing and horizontal scalability, preferred.
  • Experience with Configuration Management platforms (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Salt, or Ansible), preferred.
  • Participant in speaking engagements, published work, published blogs, and/or acquired patents, demonstrating industry notoriety, preferred.
