Position Summary

The Director of Cloud and DevOps Engineering will partner across the IT organization to formulate, implement, and operationalize our Cloud and DevOps strategy in support of PG&E’s Digital Strategy. This dynamic and highly technical leader will be a change agent in providing cross functional leadership to enable common foundations for DevOps and Cloud while enabling adoption and value realization for the strategic digital assets being implemented on the Cloud. They will develop and implement DevOps and CICD strategy in partnership with the application platforms, security, and architecture groups. Additionally, they will lead our Cloud, CICD, and Cloud Business Office organizations to deliver on the platforms to enable adoption.

The ideal leader will be a fast moving, customer and people centric, business-driven technologist with diverse skillsets including strong servant leadership skills, adept management skills with a deep passion and knowledge for Agile, and a thought leader in DevOps with a track record of building trusted relationships built upon results.

Reporting Relationship

 

This position reports to the VP of Infrastructure and Operations and leads a team of over 50 senior technologists with an overall budget accountability exceeding $50M in total spend. The role will also have a matrix reporting relationship to the VP of Enterprise Platforms and will partner closely with the leaders of application and platform development in addition to working closely with the leaders in Infrastructure and Cybersecurity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Refine and evolve our Cloud and DevOps vision into measurable and managed cross functional program focused on business value realization.
  • Lead the teams to develop the application migration roadmaps in support of the business outcomes identified for various business value streams.
  • Implement a vibrant Agile and engineering culture within the Cloud and DevOps engineering teams to inspire and enable the team to achieve their vision of providing highly automated Cloud and CICD platforms.
  • Mentor leaders and work very closely with the team to develop the platform and enablement roadmaps. Play the role of the Agile Product Owner in governing and enable the shipment of platform releases.
  • Architect, shape, and manage the communications activities across the IT organizations ensuring tight linkage and alignment between the needs of the value streams and the work products delivered by the Cloud, Security, and Architecture teams.
  • Function as a subject matter expert in Cloud and CICD and enable effective designs and decisions in the architecture and engineering of our platform products.
  • Manage strategic relationships with Public, Private and SaaS cloud providers.
  • Partner with Products & Enterprise Platforms, Architecture, Security and CIO organizations to strategize, plan, and make technology decisions.
  • Manage daily operations, ensure systems performance and service level requirements are met. 
  • Develop, retain, and build a diverse employee team that demonstrates engagement, motivation, and a strong results orientation. 
  • Sponsor Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts that lean and improve process and lower operation costs.
  • Continue the identification and adoption of new technologies that will position the enterprise for its competitive advantage.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, business administration or related discipline or equivalent years of job-related work experience
  • 8 years of IT program/product management or infrastructure/operations experience to include 3 years of managing large products/projects and/or programs
  • Experience leading a Cloud and CICD engineering organization
  • Experience leading a software engineering team using Agile principles and practices

Desired:

  • 5-10 years of experience leading platform-oriented teams in Enterprises
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Senior manager or Director in an engineering capacity
  • Demonstrated success as a change agent leading significant transformational initiatives in highly complex, matrixed organizations
  • Deep passion and knoweldge of Agile principals, techniques and methods
  • Strong financial acumen
