Job Description

IS&T Director, DevOps will own the strategy, planning, design, and implementation/migration of large & complex applications on the Public Cloud. This is a strategic technical leadership position in charge of designing & building apps and DevOps Practices. The role is a trusted advisor to IS&T’s Business clients for driving the next generation innovation but also a leader in advancing the group’s capabilities into the future. Lead the creation of value proposition in Cloud and DevOps capability / CoE. Provide thought leadership on the domain & mentorship to the team. Lead innovation & ideation by leveraging evolving technologies to identify opportunities of efficiencies in driving business excellence. The role is critical and a core building block to our core digital transformation. As an evangelist for Cloud, IS&T Director, DevOps will collaborate with leaders in various divisions, industries and geographies, in developing & implementing solutions for our VNA Business partners.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategizing, designing and implementing highly efficient solution on Public Cloud (Amazon Web Services, Azure or GCP) for security, resilience, performance, networking, availability, Blue-green deployments in context of business application.

  • Security hardening of cloud infrastructure application/web server against known/unknown vulnerabilities.

  • Assess Business needs and requirements to ensure appropriate approach to solve client challenges

  • Recommend right public / private cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, or SaaS) required for the solution

  • Expert in Capacity Planning Design, cost and effort estimations

  • Experience in cloud comparison & recommendation

  • Experience in Cloud (Public & Private) cost optimization

  • Designing and set up automated backup and restoration of application/web servers/databases/datalakes to object storage like S3.

  • Deliver best in class operations tooling & practices, including CI, CD, chatops, RBA, and RPA

  • Writing infrastructure as code for public or private clouds and implement modern cloud Integration architecture using –

    • Configuration Management (Chef, Puppet or Ansible )

    • SCM (TFS or GIT)

    • CI tools (Jenkins or Bamboo)

    • Azure Resource Manager, Cloud formation or Google Cloud Deployment Manager

    • Scripting language: Python, Bash and Shell

    • Container services like ECS, ACS, GCE or Kubernetes

  • Understands compliance, safe harbor and law of land

  • Design for failover, high availability, MTTR , MTTF and MTBF

  • Must have understanding of SDLC

  • Designing and implementing software engineering processes, improve efficiency

  • Monitor application, systems and infrastructure health

  • Report on business and processes metrics

  • Balance governance, ownership and freedom against reliability

  • Evaluate the undifferentiated heavy lifting of operating in house solutions versus adopting cloud native services (Public vs. Private)

  • Deliver best in class operations tooling & practices, including CI, CD and chatops

  • Work closely with Security Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering and SRE

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or related experience

  • 15+ years of technology experience with a min of 7+ years experience in a fast-paced organization performing as a Software Development Manager, with strong DevOps and or software development background.

  • 6 + years people management experience required

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Excellent verbal; written communication; and people skills

  • Entrepreneurial with a strong inclination towards action, preferably with experience shipping software.

  • A high-energy, expert communicator with both technical and non-technical team members, brimming with positive, proactive energy and dynamic leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams

  • Hungry for knowledge and understanding of both technical and business details

  • High level of maturity; comfortable leading meetings with people of all ages and backgrounds

  • Ability to proactively anticipate problems and seek opportunities

  • Strong understanding of Release management and environmental planning and management in distributed and PCF and hybrid cloud environments.

  • Strong understanding of API gateway, API protocols, API management console, and API Documentation creation

  • Experience in leading teams to implement solutions on a Cloud-based platform.

  • Prioritizing work with multiple product teams across large organizations

  • Clear passion for topics of technology products and ability to innovate within a product space

  • An effective manager with the desire to cultivate leadership and high performance in the team you lead

  • A data-driven decision-maker who blends sound business judgment with strong analytical thinking

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer a plus

  • Google’s Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer a plus
