Linux System Administrator with DevOps Focus

We are pleased to announce the opening for an experienced Linux System Administrator with DevOps Focus who will join our Sensors and Test Ranges group in Huntsville, AL and become part of our rapidly growing technology company operating in missile defense, cybersecurity, test range modernization, and space control marketspaces. You will be part of a team known for working in communications / telemetry / sensors and data science and data analysis for Government customers.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

You’ll be providing Linux System administration in support of development and testing efforts relating to remote sensing and command and control projects with a focus on DevOps, Continuous Integration, test, and system configuration control. We need your expertise to engineer deployable infrastructure, including hardware and software, that is replicable, cyber resilient, standards compliant, as well as flexible and extensible. Some specific duties:

  • Create and deploy execution environments to support the development teams (e.g., physical servers and workstations, local and cloud VMs, Docker images, custom containers) that are replicable and configuration managed via Configuration as Code (CaC), Continuous Configuration Automation (CCA), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) paradigms.

  • Develop processes and infrastructure to automatically provision, deploy, and test first-party software on updated systems and 3rd party software packages and repositories, troubleshoot compatibility issues, and keep tested configurations and images up-to-date.

  • A focus on “infrastructure as code” and "configuration as code" to create self-documenting, reproducible execution environments for a variety of development and test use-cases

  • Support Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) configuration and testing by implementing and maintaining recipes to replicate development, test, and deployment execution environments, help troubleshoot CI pipeline failures with development teams

  • Provide DevOps support for rapid development, software testing, and field-site configuration validation activities.

  • Debug and resolve issues with operating system configurations, services, networking, environment configurations, package updates, etc.

  • Interface with the company IT department and coordinate on strategic initiatives relating to efficient provisioning and configuration of compute resources, configuration standards, and development vs. corporate compute environments and standards

  • Maintain documentation and configuration management of development, test, and deployed systems.

Here’s what you’ll need:

You must have a bachelor’s degree, at minimum, in a related field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management of Information Systems, etc. and the ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance. Lacking any one of these disqualifies you from this job.

You also must have:

  • Proficiency in Linux Systems Administration (Red Hat flavors).

  • Proficiency with Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) and automated software build and testing systems (GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.)

  • Experience with virtualization solutions (VMware, OpenShift, etc.)

  • The ability to work regularly at our site in either Huntsville, AL or Lexington, MA.

Other qualifications we hope you bring to the table:

  • 4+ years of experience

  • RedHat certification

  • Proficiency with Continuous Configuration Automation (CCA) DevOps tools (Docker, Puppet, Terraform, Ansible, etc.)

  • Experience with automation solutions, systems provisioning and management solutions

  • Experience with scripting or software development

  • Experience with Operating System/application security hardening (DISA STIG's, etc.)

  • Experience with Secure Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) scanning and customization

  • Experience in regulated environments

  • A positive attitude coupled with a sense of urgency compatible with a fast-paced environment, and an ability to think clearly and develop creative solutions

  • A strong desire to learn new technologies, techniques, and specialties and well as the ability to conceive and create new approaches or solutions to resolve issues and push development forward expediently.
